Where to Stay in Gozo: Hotels, Farmhouses and Village Stays

Gozo's accommodation is its own category. The signature stay is the converted stone farmhouse with a private pool — typically a group of interconnected village houses rented as a unit, with thick limestone walls and often spectacular views across the rural interior. The island also has boutique hotels and small resort hotels in the coastal bays.

Where to base yourself

• Victoria (Rabat) — The central capital — walkable, with the Citadel, restaurants and shops nearby. The most practical base.
• Xlendi and Marsalforn — Small seaside resort bays with hotels, restaurants and swimming platforms. More social than rural village bases.
• Rural villages (Xagħra, Nadur, Għarb, San Lawrenz) — Farmhouse country — the most atmospheric and secluded option. A car is essential.
• Mġarr — Close to the ferry — convenient for arrivals or if combining a short Gozo stay with the main island.

Booking tips

Farmhouses make most sense for stays of three nights or more and for groups or families. Book summer farmhouses well in advance — they fill early. Confirm whether a pool is private or shared, and check transfer times from the ferry.
