About Sannat
Sannat — Gozo
Sannat is a village in the south of Gozo, famous for the towering Ta' Čenċ cliffs that fall away to the sea on its doorstep — the highest in Gozo. Long known for its delicate lace, it pairs a traditional village heart with some of the island's wildest scenery.
Where is Sannat?
Sannat lies just south of Victoria, on the high ground above Gozo's southern coast, where the land ends in the great Ta' Čenċ cliffs.
History of Sannat
The Ta' Čenċ plateau bears traces of prehistoric activity, including mysterious "cart ruts" carved into the rock and a megalithic dolmen, showing the area was used in ancient times. The village grew as a farming and craft community, and Sannat lace earned a reputation well beyond Gozo. In modern times part of the clifftop has been associated with a landmark hotel, while the cliffs remain a protected natural area.
