Kerċem (Gozo) — valley village: St Gregory, Lunzjata and living
Kerċem (Ta' Kerċem) is a village in western Gozo, in the Gozo & Comino District, just south-west of Victoria. Set above the fertile Lunzjata Valley, it is known for its springs and farmland and for a parish linked to Our Lady of Perpetual Succour and St Gregory.
Where is Kerċem?
Kerċem lies just south-west of Victoria, on the way toward the western coast of Gozo. It belongs to the Gozo & Comino District and overlooks the green Lunzjata Valley, bordering Victoria, Munxar and San Lawrenz.
History of Kerċem
Kerċem grew as an agricultural village exploiting the spring-fed Lunzjata Valley, long one of the most productive farming areas on Gozo. The chapel of St Gregory (San Girgor) is associated with an old tradition of pilgrimage, and the village later became a parish. The nearby hamlet of Santa Luċija developed its own identity within the same area.
