Locality normalisation methodology

Raw OSM locality strings are mapped to canonical ImaginaMalta locality slugs using an explicit lookup table (no fuzzy matching). Sub-localities (e.g. Paceville → paceville_san_giljan) and Maltese article forms (Il-, Is-, Ir-, Ħal-) are handled. Records with no mappable locality are excluded from locality detail pages but counted in totals.

Gozo localities are kept with their island suffix (e.g. gharb_ghawdex, victoria → ir_rabat_g_awdex) to avoid collision with Malta localities of the same name.

Deduplication

9 duplicate records were identified and removed during data processing. Duplicates were detected by matching OSM ID, type and coordinates. Way and node representations of the same feature were resolved by preferring the way-based record where more attributes were present.

Reporting corrections

To correct a record, update the corresponding OpenStreetMap node or way directly at openstreetmap.org. Corrections made to OSM will be reflected in future ImaginaMalta data refreshes.
