Where is Xgħajra?

Xgħajra lies on the south-eastern coast just beyond the Grand Harbour, east of the Three Cities and below Żabbar, with a rocky shoreline facing the open sea. It belongs to the Southern Harbour District and is one of the smaller coastal localities.

History of Xgħajra

The Xgħajra coastline formed part of Malta's coastal defence network, with batteries and entrenchments guarding the approaches east of the Grand Harbour. The settlement remained small and rural before developing in the 20th century into a residential and summer-home village, later established as a separate locality with its own council.
